Written by Smarter Drafter | Jun 3, 2026 5:38:31 PM

We've refreshed the Smarter Drafter Word Add-In with a modernised interface and quality-of-life improvements to the Clause Library. Here's everything that's changed.

What's new in the latest release

We've released an update to the Smarter Drafter Word Add-In focused on UI and UX improvements, along with a set of quality-of-life updates to the Clause Library. There are no changes to Submissions, notifications, the approval workflow, or permissions. Your existing setup carries over as-is.

Here's a full breakdown of what's changed.

  • Redesigned interface: The login, home, and Clause Library screens have been modernised with a cleaner, more consistent layout. The core workflows remain the same because the update is purely visual, aimed at reducing friction and making the add-in easier to navigate day-to-day.
  • New Review tab: Pending and rejected clauses are now separated into a dedicated Review tab, removing the need to filter or scroll through your full clause list to find items that need attention. A live count badge on the tab keeps the number of outstanding items visible at a glance.

  • Clause Type (formerly Practice Area): "Practice Area" has been renamed to Clause Type to better reflect how clauses are categorised in practice. Clause types now display as a hierarchy. For example, Confidentiality › NDA, making it easier to understand the relationship between types at a glance.
  • Guidance Notes (formerly Short Description): "Short Description" has been renamed to Guidance Notes to more accurately describe its purpose. It now appears as a collapsible section within the clause view, keeping the interface clean while still surfacing the information when it's needed.
  • Updated clause edit flow: Clause content is now edited via an Update clause content button within the edit form, making the edit flow more explicit and reducing the chance of accidental changes.
  • Clause history: Each clause now includes a full audit log showing created, approved, and modified events. This gives drafters greater visibility into a clause's lifecycle without needing to leave the add-in.
  • Profile dropdown: The profile dropdown now displays your tenant name and email address, along with a direct link to Support. This is useful if you need to raise a query or report an issue without leaving your document.
  • URL References removed: URL References are no longer available on clauses. If you previously used this field, the information will need to be captured elsewhere. For example, within the clause content or Guidance Notes.
